The brief

Two grooms, each in the other's wedding party, married on August 5 and 7. About nineteen guys flying in from Detroit, Dallas and Atlanta. Good golf is the one thing that is not negotiable.

The verdict

On the grooms' brief, this is a house with golf next door: Orlando first, Austin second, Vegas if a hotel floor counts as together.

Edmund answered the questionnaire on October 8 and Dapo agreed, so it is the baseline: May, four to five nights, up to $2,000 a head, a rental house if the numbers allow, some guys in their own rooms, mild weather, good golf non negotiable. Only two cities can put nineteen guys under one roof legally and inside the budget, and both have golf a few minutes away.

Cheapest flights of the ten, 10 bedroom pool homes at $74 to $93 per guy per night, and golf everywhere from $50 to $136. It is a golf plus house party trip, not a night out trip, and summer afternoons bring lightning most days.

Lake Travis party barges, Sixth and Rainey, Hill Country barbecue, and the Dallas guys can drive. Omni Barton Creek is $450 plus a night with guests only golf, Detroit has a single Delta nonstop, and everything is 20 to 60 minutes apart.

Nonstops from all three cities, summer golf at $69 to $130, and a casino, pool and sportsbook under every hotel so twenty guys never need a car or a plan to stay together.

Why the house decides it

Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans, Tampa and Myrtle Beach all cap or ban big rental houses for groups, and Scottsdale's estates stop at 16 with a party ordinance. Orlando's ChampionsGate homes sleep 22 to 30 with enough bedrooms for the guys who need their own, and Austin's Lake Travis houses sleep 20 with a dock. In a house, an own room is just claiming a bedroom; at a hotel it is $75 to $190 a night extra.

Two honest caveats

Mild weather: neither Orlando (86 in May) nor Austin (84) is mild, and neither is Vegas (89). Only San Diego, Myrtle Beach and Nashville in May, and Tahoe in June, are. San Diego comes back into range at $2,000 but the big houses have week long minimums. The calendar still matters more than the city: Wednesday May 12 to Sunday May 16 or May 19 to 23 is before Memorial Day, before the Florida storm season and before the Texas heat.

The baseline brief

What the grooms said, and what it rules in and out.

Treat these as the ground rules for the vote. The original research ran on a tighter $1,500 brief with a resort first; that version is still in the full report and as the Original brief preset on the priorities page.

Dates and length

Weddings are August 5 and 7. Trip in May or June, four nights, five if the PTO allows. Avoid Memorial Day (May 31), Father's Day (June 20), CMA Fest in Nashville (June 9 to 14) and July entirely.

Money and rooms

Up to $2,000 a head all in. Some guys need their own room. Whether the group covers the grooms is open; Edmund said it would be nice but funds may not be easy for everyone, so the roster asks each guy his real ceiling.

Vibe

A rental house to keep everyone together. Mild weather preferred. Good golf is the one non negotiable. Edmund's own words on location: anywhere, as long as it is not ghetto.
